Purification of the heart and soul in Islam

There has always been a focus on improving our character in our religion Islam. The Prophet (SAW) said: “Nothing is heavier on the Scale of believers on the Day of Judgment than the good character” (Tirmidhi). From above, we can conclude that on the Day of Judgment, the good character and the pure heart of a person will be important. In another hadith, Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Allah does not look at your figures or your clothes, but He looks at your hearts and your accomplishments.” (Sahih Muslim)

Allah Almighty said in the Quran: “He has succeeded in purifying the soul, and he has failed, which corrupts the soul.” (Quran, 91: 9-10) We learn from Ayah above that our success in the afterlife depends on the cleansing of our hearts in this life.

Therefore, focusing deliberately every day on improving the state of the heart helps us acquire a good character and increase our overall productivity. Here are some tips from the Quran and Sunnah that will help you purify the heart and soul of the person or the individual.

Start with repentance: Sins are obstacles that limit the ability to do good works; Begin your journey of purifying the heart and soul with sincere repentance. In the Holy Quran, Allah Almighty says: “Allah loves those who constantly repent” (Quran, 2: 222). We can obtain the blessings and the love of Allah by repenting. Our beloved Prophet (SAW) said, “The best of creation, seek repentance more than 70 times a day, repentance of sin reduces its sweetness – it discourages you to do it again.” The purification of the heart and soul in Islam is really good.

Pay attention to your inner thoughts: Allah Almighty is so close to us that even the thoughts that occur in our minds are known to Allah (SWT). Good or bad, Allah knows. In the Quran, Allah says, “And we have already created the man and know what his soul is whispering to him, and we are closer to him than his jugular vein” (Quran, 50:16). When we feel responsible to Allah for our thoughts, we intentionally judge the thing with understanding. We pay attention to our inner thoughts that help us understand other aspects of life and the things we focus on. By doing this, we can increase our productivity, our happiness, and our mental comfort.

Performing Compulsory Prayers: Performing obligatory prayers is one of the obvious things that each of us should do. The sound actions come from sound states. If you find it difficult to follow the prayers, look for spiritual causes that may prevent you from accessing this blessing. Actions are based on Intentions. We must, therefore, verify our intentions which are we should be sincere in intentions if we want to seek the pleasure of Allah. We should have healthy actions and sincere intentions behind every act of kindness, just like praying in time. Allah says in the Quran, “He has succeeded the purified, who remembers the name of his Lord and prays” (Quran, 87: 14-15). The purification of the heart and soul in Islam is useful.

Increase small acts of kindness: When we tend to focus on our own mistakes rather than others, we become aware of all our actions. Once we purify our heart, we add good and beautiful things to it. Allah Almighty says in the Holy Quran: “Take from their riches a charity by which you purify and purify them, and invoke blessings upon them.” (Quran, 92: 103) Charity means not only giving wealth, but also giving people your time, your effort, and even a smile or a word. The purification of the heart and soul in Islam is great.

Read the Daily Quran: Make a routine to read the Quran amount, no matter what page it is or a few lines that you can read easily after one of the mandatory prayers every day. Allah Almighty says in the Quran: “Those who have believed and whose heart is assured by the remembrance of Allah, and by the remembrance of Allah, surely, hearts are assured.” (Quran, 13:28). Reading the Quran every day is the greatest form of Dhikr (Remembering Allah). Giving time to the Quran allows us to stay connected to Allah, making it more likely that we consciously avoid sinning. It also helps us get rid of useless things, allowing us to achieve clarity and peace.
In short, to achieve a high level of productivity, our hearts must be light and beautiful. To purify our soul, we should do the following things that are mentioned above. May Allah give us the strength to purify our hearts and souls in a just way! Ameen
